Consultancy

to top^
Family History Detectives can provide individuals or organisations
with a wide range of family history related consultancy services,
helping individual clients get the most out of their research
and assisting organisations in developing their resourses
and skill base.
Over
the past few years we have been involved in a number of projects
such as the Wordsley Glass Initiative and the Telford Commemoration
of the Abolition of the Slave Trade. Amongst other things,
we are currently working in partnership with the Birmingham
Library Service on a Project entitled "History On Your Doorstep"
encouraging people to use their local library to trace their
family history.
Personal
Tuition ^back

We offer individually tailored, personal tuition on tracing
your ancestors. Please contact us
for more details of this service.
Research
Services ^back

We offer a Family History Research Service which can conduct
research on your behalf. We cannot do your whole family tree
but we can help you with researching a particular person,
or if you are experiencing a research problem. We can carry
out general research and also specific research in the locality
where we are based in Central England.
To
help get you started we have provided links to all the archives
we can visit. We would suggest that if you have an ancestor
who lived in one of the following areas, click on the archive
and see what records they have:

If
you decide on the latter email us first with your request,
question or problem. Then if you decide to go ahead with the
research you will need to fill out an application.

apply for research to be undertaken on your behalf,
download and complete the application form found here

What
will you get?
Following our research, you will receive a written report
containing a listing of all the sources checked on your
behalf and a transcript or copy of the information relevant
to your particular enquiry. You should normally receive
your report within a month of your original enquiry. We
will tell you if we are unable to provide the information
you have requested or if it cannot be found within the time
for which you have paid.
What
do I need to include in my application?
The application form is self explanatory. Keep your request
simple and specific. If you need more than one piece of
information, let us know which is the most important, in
case there is not enough time to find everything. Tell us
if you've already used other internet genealogical resources
(e.g. the International Genealogical Index).
What
will it cost?
The charge for a search will be calculated at the following
rates:
|
Time
taken for research

Cost
per hour (or part thereof)

up
to 5hours
|
£25

includes charges for report writing, postage and administration,
as well as copies of up to six documents, if we find anything
of interest. The minimum fee is for an hour's work. Please
note that if we need to order certificates this will not
be included in the hourly rate. You will need to pay for
these separately.
We
will tell you if we are unable to provide the information
you have requested or if it cannot be found within the time
for which you have paid.
